Now you may be thinking Chicago, tech, mobile tech; what is going on here. Well for those that you haven’t figured it out I like mobile technology and gadgets. So a trip to Chicago will allow me to see what potentional Cingular’s (excuse me The New AT&T) mobile broadband of my 8525 (HTC - Hermies) really is. They are saying that Mobile Broadband, for at&t wireless, is coming this year here in little ol’ Iowa. Verizon and Sprint over the last couple of months have their’s up and running. Anyway, needless to say I am really looking forward to checking out highspeed data connection with my phone. I use it everyday, be it checking mail, listening to music, catching up on my news, surfing the web. I use it constantly. I knew I was going to like the 8525, but did not think it would cause me to rethink what I would need the way of computing technology.  Well enough of my babbling, I must get back to the daily grind.

If any one out there is reading and would be able to help. I would like to try out the HTC Shift - specs, and the i-mate Ultimate 7150. Thanks in advance.

Well I can say I am liking what I have seen so far with Windows Vista, RC1. I had been running Beta 2 in VM since it became available via the CPP (Customer Preview Program). For those of you who signed up for Vista Beta 2 in June for the CPP you should have received an e-mail allowing to download Vista RC1. For those who did not sign-up or get to sign-up they will be opening up to new participants in the next couple of weeks.

Now for for the rest of the story. I down loaded Vista RC1 last Thursday and have rebuilt my laptop with it as the my main OS. The last couple of days I have finally been able to get my laptop to some semblance of order and to a point of being able to use it as my primary machine. So between work, family, and computer building my time has been totally consumed, sleep being a bit lacking initially. So that is where I had disappeared off to, and contrary to popular belief I had not taken holiday to Pluto.

My good friend The Library Despot has plugged The AnderNaut for providing the resources for his new Podcast Site. Now I’m going to have to have more content for all you new visitors.

I highly suggest his site(s), especially if you are interested in Library Serials. He has been doing the blogging thing for a while now and is a great extension of his Library Serials career.

Flashback to 1985

August 22nd, 2006 No Comments

Well… I would have only been 10 years old, when all this was going on. Yet, I still remember bits and pieces. All I can say is what a long way things have progressed. It is cool to think about those things and then realize just what was high-tech. I, myself, remember having a top loading VCR and our family Commodore 64 as a part of my 80’s. I would like to give Engadget a huge kudo for this little trip down memory lane.

I have a new blog to add to the AnderTek fold, Dev-N-Progress, . In reality it is not new, it is my development site that I have consolidated from having one for each blog instance to one. So it has been around in some fashion for a while now. It will be postings pertaining to my blogging experiences from an admin perspective.

Well… it looks like this site for testing and development just might also end up being a blog on such. The basic format, or actually theme would probably be a better way to describe it, or even more vague would be direction, is my time and journeys I take in my blogging admin duties.

I would be glad to receive any comments or suggestions for content. As I stated above this will be my development site for now so there will be the possibility of it being down at times.

Happy Blogging

From Wednesday night, late, thru Monday evening I have pretty much been cut off from the internet. Well other then the quick glimpse when I was in range with my new JAMin on the Cingular network and being able to grab a few RSS feeds and the few e-mails I received. Yes you read that correctly I actually know a place, and intentionally went on top of it, where I did not even have mobile phone service. Although I did like the semi peaceful state in which there is not a broadband connection I do not think I could function like that on an ongoing basis.

We will see how it goes during the Holidays this year, when we will make the trek again. They were looking at DSL while we were there, so things are looking up. Besides there is a BWW a short drive away and I can combine my two favorite things Chicken and Tech! :-)

Well I need to really figure out a new system for posting, what I was afraid of happening did. My schedule got out of wack over a several week period and there went the blogging. I plan on setting up a system that I have available on the go. But as you know I’m a bit of a mobile gadget geek, ok I’m a huge gadget geek. Thanks to those of you who has stuck it out with me and welcome to all those new to The AnderNaut.

New toy in town

May 18th, 2006 No Comments

I got a new toy this week, an i-mate JAMin, I have been tormenting myself over this for quite a while now. I had also been looking at the i-mate JasJar, both of these and more can be found at Club i-mate. It took much contemplating, ok not much contemplating, just how I was going to get it. This is actually my second i-mate purchase, the first was a SP3i for my wife and is working out great for her. After reading the review, of the JAMin, over at Mobile Tech Review, courteous of PocketPC Thoughts it was over, i bought it.

I must say after only a day this little device rocks. I have been getting a good 116kb to 130kb when testing the speed over at BBReports Mobile Speed test thought out the day, quite respectable for EDGE data service (Cingular’s Network EDGE Map). The WiFi was quite easy to setup and use for my home setup. I wasn’t able to connect at Panera over Dinner, will have to work more with that later. I’ll be the giving the camera a try, probably have my wife do that, that’s her thing. I’ve even thought about getting a hosted Exchange account to get good use out of the ROM update with MSFP (Messaging and Security Feature Pack). MSFP allows for Microsoft’s new e-mail push technology, there answer to compete with RIM’s Blackberry devices. Anyway I’ll will be posting more as I use the JAMin. I have never really been fond of converged devices (combining phone and PDA technologies, in this case) as my sole device, so I’ll continue to use my iPAQ along with it.

Just got back from a five day, four night stay in glorious stay in Las Vegas Nevada, a much need vacation. Now that I say that, it has been a really long time sense I’ve taken a vacation. So now back to the daily grind and blogging. Still have a few days before I have to be back to work. I’ll post more later.

During the trip I have also thought about starting a blog dedicated to the reviews of hot wings. I’m not quite sure of the scope yet, and would love to here ideas and input.

As I have blogged about before I was looking at possibly getting a hosting provider and actually installing and setting up WordPress. The install and setup went well and was able to make my first post. I also installed several widgets, including the Side Bar widget. I still need to work on the Permilinks, but I basically knew that would happen with my hosting provider. Also, I am looking into getting a new theme and tweaking it. Well that is it for now.

I have been making a concerted effort and find more things to blog about, and hope to post more often. Visit The AnderNaut Dev site, which is where the new home of the AnderNaut will be. I have also linked to it from the BlogCall over in the side bar.

As always thank you for visiting and for you patronage, and many happy returns.
